Margrain, Anne Meade, and Open Polytechnic of New Zealand
Project Aims
- Add to
current knowledge about tertiary teaching and learning, particularly
assessment practice in tertiary distance education.
- Enhance
the links between educational research and distance teaching
practices.
- Strengthen
research capability among lecturers in early childhood teacher
education.
Project Plan
- A postal
questionaire will be sent to all students enrolled in the programme
who have completed at least five assignments..
- Three focus-group
interviews
- Analysis
of student records (course completion dates and grades).
- Students
can participate in any or all of these aspects of the research,
or decline to do so.
Partnerships involved
- Open Polytechnic
of New Zealand
Expected Outcomes
It is clear
that written assessment feedback has a key role to play in the
enhancement of student learning. This TLRI project contributes
to research in this field by identifying:
- the barriers
that may undermine the potential effectiveness of feedback;
and
- what kind
of feedback is likely to help students engage most effectively
with learning.
